Is conscious attention a prerequisite for listening?

ÄÄNI has commissioned Jon Hopkins to compose the Night Train’s eight-hour track and experiment with the idea of unconscious listening.
The music here is made to be slept through.

The sleeper train will be turned into a sound gallery, where the cabins will be equipped with individually calibrated pairs of Genelec studio monitors, while the low-end register will be occupied by the train’s own rumble.

The Night Train project is set to run for 2027, developed together with Hans Ulrich Obrist, with the idea of bringing art to public places.
